{"id":185,"date":"2016-04-16T19:13:34","date_gmt":"2016-04-16T19:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailymountaingb.com\/english\/?p=185"},"modified":"2016-04-16T19:13:34","modified_gmt":"2016-04-16T19:13:34","slug":"karakoram-highway-opened-for-traffic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailymountaingb.com\/english\/karakoram-highway-opened-for-traffic\/","title":{"rendered":"Karakoram Highway opened for traffic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Gilgit\/Besham\/Islamabad:<\/strong> The Karakoram Highway has been opened for traffic between Rawalpindi and Gilgit after two-week long closure.<\/p>\n<p>According to details shared by the GB Information Department, the KKH has been opened for traffic after removal of the <span id=\"IL_AD1\" class=\"IL_AD\">landslide<\/span> debris from the road in Kiyal and Chuchang area of Dassu, Kohistan.<\/p>\n<p>According to sources based in Besham, the road is open for traffic for light vehicles. By tomorrow afternoon a 30-meter long patch of the road will be reconnected, allowing heavy vehicles to reach Gilgit.<\/p>\n<p>The Sost-Khunjerav section of the KKH still remains blocked at multiple locations. Work is underway, according to Burhan Afandi, Deputy Commissioner of Hunza, to clear the blockades on urgent basis.<\/p>\n<p>The road got blocked for traffic at more than a hundred locations during torrential rainfall starting on 3<sup>rd<\/sup> of April. The prolonged closure of the KKH had caused shortage of food, medicine and other essential items in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan has hailed the role of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and the Pakistan Army for working day and night to reconnect the road that, for all practical purposes, is the <span id=\"IL_AD2\" class=\"IL_AD\">lifeline<\/span>of Gilgit-Baltistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gilgit\/Besham\/Islamabad: The Karakoram Highway has been opened for traffic between Rawalpindi and Gilgit after two-week long closure.
