DG-GBDMA Safdar Khan reviews the community-based interventions under GLOF-II project in Hunza

Hunza: Director General Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) Mr. Safdar Khan conducted a thorough review of the ongoing GLOF-II Project initiatives in Ghulkin and Hussaini villages of the Hunza district. The assessment covered construction of Community-Based Disaster Risk Management Centers, installation of Early Warning Systems and safe heavens in the vulnerable valleys.
Mr. Abdul Basit, Provincial Coordinator UNDP briefed the Director General about the ongoing initiatives under the GLOF-II project in Hunza – highlighting that the completion of these projects will empower the local communities to take appropriate preventive measures to cope with natural disasters posed by climate change. He commended GBDMA’s effective role in implementation of the community-based interventions in the target valleys.
The Director General GBDMA expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing initiatives under the GLOF-II project calling them crucial initiatives in climate change mitigation.
