AKRSP organized the National Coalition of Employer convention in Gilgit

GILGIT: (Mountain Pass) Under the auspices of the Broadening Economic and Social Transformation for Women’s Economic Empowerment and Recovery (BEST4WEER) project, AKRSP organized the National Coalition of Employer convention in Gilgit, chaired by Vice Chancellor Karakoram International University. The core mission of this convention is to secure unwavering commitments from employers to provide gender-responsive and employer-driven training, apprenticeships, internships, and employment opportunities for the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral.

The convention placed strong emphasis on creating a gender-inclusive work environment and fostering enabling processes and policies within organizations, as emphasized by Ms. Sosan Aziz, Lead Gender & Safeguarding, AKRSP.

Key discussions revolved around enhancing the employability of young graduates and women in GBC, with employers stressing the need for skill development training to bridge job sector gaps. Notable recommendations included extending the duration of Future of Work initiatives, imparting 21st-century skills, and nurturing work ethics.

The convention highlighted the potential for collaboration between AKRSP and SCO to enhance internet services in the region, catalyzing growth in the IT sector. It also underscored the need for education-related policies, school provisions, and funding opportunities in remote areas of the region, along with curriculum redesign to align with employer needs and practical realities.

Young participants who benefited from the Future of Work program shared their experiences, reflecting on their engagement with AKRSP.

The Chief Guest stressed the changing trends in hiring, where work ethics and attitude now carry the most weight. He welcomed employers to collaborate in developing course curricula to enhance youth’s future employability.

The National Coalition of Employers convention reflects the commitment of BEST4WEER and its partners to drive positive change in the lives of women and youth in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. Through collaborative efforts, this project is paving the way for gender equality and economic empowerment in the region.
