Kashmir Day to be observed on Feb 5 in Gilgit Baltistan

GILGIT, (Mountain Pass) : Like rest of the country, Kashmir Solidarity Day will be observed on February 5th across Gilgit-Baltistan with the pledge to seek a resolution of the Kashmir issue according to United Nations resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The hallmark of the day will be when people from different walks of life will reiterate complete solidarity by forming human chain on River View Road, twin bridges, a historic point of Gilgit City, capital town of region.
The day will dawn with special prayers for the martyrs of Kashmir and victory of the freedom struggle. During the day, mass rallies, seminars, walks, processions, meetings and speech contests
will be held. The government of Gilgit-Baltistan has announced February 5 as a closed holiday to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day in support of Kashmiris. The day will signify political, moral and diplomatic support to Kashmiris in their struggle for self-determination. One minute silence will be observed at 10 a.m. across the region in connection with the day. General public have also been requested to observe silence to pay homage to Kashmiri martyrs. Like other parts of Pakistan, brisk preparations are afoot throughout ten districts of GB to celebrate the day. The legislators of Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly and the GB Council will pay tribute to the people of Indian
occupied Jammu and Kashmir for their continuous struggle to achieve their right of self-determination. The people of Gilgit-Baltistan would observe the day with great fervor and will renew their pledge and unwavering support to Kashmiris till they get their legitimate right of self-determination and become free from Indian subjugation. The civil society, political, cultural and educational organizations have arranged special programmes in connection
with this important day. Rallies and processions will also be taken out on the eve of solidarity Day.
Other events will include photo exhibitions displaying atrocities of Indian security forces and publication of articles and special supplements in the local newspapers.
Local stations of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation in Gilgit and Skardu will air special programmes and interviews of prominent p-personalities to highlight different aspects of Kashmir issue. The Solidarity day is a reminder of the sacrifices rendered by tens of thousands of Kashmiris, besides renewal of commitment by Kashmiris to peaceful resolution of the decades old dispute with
India. Secretary Social Development and Human Rights Asim Tiwana is overseeing all the arrangements as concerted efforts are to the mark the day in a befitting manner. A high level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Secretary Social Sector and Human Rights to review the arrangements which was attended by all stakeholders. In this regard events have already been started in remote district of Ghanche people from all walks of life gathered to condemn Indian atrocities. In Gilgit Baltistan major event is scheduled to be held in Gilgit, capital town of the region, where Chief Secretary Dr. Kazim Niaz would be chief guest.
Mr. Asim Tiwana told this scribe that coordinated efforts are being made on the directives of Federal and provincial governments to highlight the Kashmir issue to attract the attention of international community towards the Indian atrocities.
