NATCO LAUNCHING URBAN TRANSPORT SERVICE FOR WORKING WOMEN, SPECIAL PEOPLE IN GILGIT CITY

Gilgit: The Northern Areas Transport Corporation (NATCO) is getting ready to launch an urban transport service focused at working women and special people. MD NATCO Muhammad Hussain is personally supervising the arrangements being made.

This was stated by Eshan Shah, NATCO’s Public Relations Officer, in a press statement. He has said that work is underway for identification of routes and stops, and arranging vehicles for the urban transport service.

Ehsan said that the transport service is being launched on the special instructions of CM Hafeezur Rehman, in view of the difficulties faced by the working women and special people.

Special cards will be launched to facilitate the commuters. Vehicles will pick the passengers from different stops and drop them at their destinations, added Ehsan Shah. He said that the facility will initially be provided in Gilgit city only as a pilot project. If the service remained effective, then it will be extended to other cities also.

It is pertinent to note that there’s no proper public transport system in the cities and towns of Gilgit-Baltistan. Commuters depend on privately owned “Suzukis” for moving within the cities.
