Smoking, a foremost intimidation towardssociety

BY SHEHZADA ARSLAN HAIDER
Man is always in the pursuance of peace and tranquility. He adopts different means to have it and smoking is one of them. Regardless of its numerous hazards and bad effects, a smoker smokes merely to have some moment of peace. Let us look at various affects of smoking. Smoking is injurious to health, as the American Heart Association has stated that death rates from coronary heart diseases in middle-aged men are 50-90% higher among heavy smoker than among non- smokers. There is extensive evidence that smoking contributes to the development of coronary heart diseases and eventually results in heart attack. As a smoker grows older, carbon particles deposits in the lungs. The lung cancer is due to congestion of lungs. It can cause strain and tension in nervous system which creates depression and restless. It is well unambiguous that: Habit is the second nature. So it is very hard to get rid of any habit in particular smoking. If you are traveling in a van or bus and are smoking, this passive smoking is quite a death-defying for those who are passing through with you. If you are a smoker even your own children will abhor the ill smell of your mouth. Sometimes even animals don’t like its horrific smell.                                                                                                                                 As a Muslim, we deem in the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) and have a staunch conviction for his reputable Hadiths mubaraka. According to him: “Do not do that creates trouble for others”.It is a bad habit because a smoker can easily be victimized for addictives. In this way, smoking is the gateway to the narcotics. The smoker can easily be addicted to drugs and tranquilizers. This risk is present in every cigarette, which is offered to him by some unknown person in a bus, in college, or in a theatre. For the sake of the taste of one cigarette, he is deliberately pushing himself towards death. Before some people, smoking is tranquility. According to them, whena man feels loneliness and boredom, he lights a cigarette. It is his friend of seclusion. Smoking makes him quite fresh. From the above discussion, it is clear that smoking has wide range of negative or bad aspects over its positive ones. So we ought to avoid smoking and make the concerned authorities aware of their responsibilities and roles.                       The writer is a bonafide apprentic hailing from GILGIT, who at the very outset contributes to print media.
