Oneday seminar on Media Laws and Ethics in professional journalism held at KIU

By Yameen Hussain GILGIT: One-day seminar on Media Laws and Ethics in professional journalism. The seminar was organized by GB Pride Association in cooperation with the Department of Media and Communication Studies here on Wednesday, 18 September 2019. Deputy SpeakerGilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly Jaffarullah Khan was the chief guest of the seminar. Chief guest Deputy Speaker Jaffarullah Khan, Vice-ChancellorKarakorum International University Dr. Attaullah Shah, CEO GB Pride AssociationGhazala Yasmeen, Deputy Director FIA Gilgit-Baltistan, Additional DirectorCyber Crimes Wing Ali Ahmed, Dr. Akber Ali, and others addressed the students of media department specially and other students of the university about media laws and ethics. A large number of media and other students were present in the seminar. Speaker Jaffarullah Khan said that people should use media in a constructive way having kept in mind the laws and ethics of the society. “It should be our collective responsibility to the aware public regarding media laws and ethics”, he said. VC Karakorum International University Dr. AttaullahShah threw light on the importance of laws and ethics in journalism according to the Holy Quran. He adviced, “We should not share and spread news without confirmation and it is more important for the students of media”. CEO GB Pride Association Ghazala Yasmeen earlier said that their organization had been highlighting important and serious issues in Gilgit-Baltistan since its formation. “In Gilgit-Baltistan most people are unaware of media laws and ethics and cyber crimes are increasing day by day because of lack of such pieces of training and workshops”, she said. Deputy Director FIAGilgit-Baltistan Tariq Pervaiz said that FIA Cyber Crimes Wings was in process for encountering cyber crimes. While Additional Director Ali Ahmed addressed students about the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 and made aware of different retributions and penalties according to the cybercrime laws.Dr. Akber Ali, the lecturer of the media department, threw light on the importance of oflaws and ethics in modern journalism and technological world. Mrs. Faiza Munib, another lecturer from media department, thanked the guests and students for cooperating with them and participated in the seminar. At last, VC KIU Dr.Attaullah Shah and Deputy Speaker Jaffarullah Khan received a souvenir from each other.
